SOC/CRJS 421: Wall Street

“Greed, for lack of a better word, is good.”

The story involves a young stockbroker who is desperate to get to "the top." After becoming involved with an extremely successful and wealthy corporate raider, he quickly learns that insider information is the secret to success.

Think about: What effects are there in being judged on the basis of those things society says are important? Now that you see, and possibly understand, the motivations/benefits of committing white-collar crimes, does it excuse (or mitigate) the behavior?

Also, did you also notice that gender stratification is prominent? Wall Street, as portrayed here, is a male dominated world, women are secretaries or prostitutes, available to men with money to do their bidding.
